Proteus® Systems has installed systems across the US and abroad for fifty years. They're scalable from small homes to large industrial sites, working quietly in many residences, Fortune 500 companies, commercial laundry services, vet clinics, golf courses... and schools. Below you will find several testimonials and stories.
NEW FINDINGS: Proteus Corrosion Control Technology Addresses a National Water Crisis
With the current water crisis, the increasing shortages are made up by pumping more water out of aquifers and wells. More and deeper pumping pulls up hard water that contains more corrosive impurities, which increases the rate of corrosion and more leaks — and more pipe failures.
It is estimated that it would cost $16 trillion to replace/refurbish US water and sewer lines.
Fixing the nation’s aging water infrastructure is critical to the health of the country. As we are now seeing, it impacts food production, industrial processes, drinking water and sanitation for everyone.
Proteus’ corrosion control preserves pipes, thereby reducing the number and severity of leaks. The magnesium hydroxide introduced by the Proteus Systems, removes corrosion and helps prevent future corrosion.

San Francisco Unified School District - Facilities Planning & Construction: A Testimonial
"...This serves to confirm our satisfaction with your Proteus® lead-inhibiting product in our program to reduce excessive lead found in the water of our buildings.
"We sampled water fixtures in our School of the Arts Building at 700 Font Blvd., San Francisco. We found soluble lead, in excess of the EPA's guidelines for schools of 20 ppb up to 129 ppb, in many of these samples. Your Proteus® unit was then installed at the building's water point-of-entry. After about 18 months, allowing time for magnesium anode to dissipate and coat the interior of the piping, we again tested the water. Analytical results indicated all locations tested were well below the District's action level of 15 ppb. Indeed, typical samples taken either had zero traceable lead to 1/100th of the level the EPA allowed. The highest sample was at 0.29 ppb, again well below the 15 ppb. As aside note, there have been reports that water has a marked improvement in taste & aesthetics. In summary to date, we are very satisfied with the performance & dependability of your product & look forward to further implementations for our buildings in need of lead control."

Three Stories about Proteus Systems™ -- Synopses:
No Harsh Chemicals. Office building Chief Engineer Luther Larson’s skepticism faded after thoroughly testing Proteus Systems. The many benefits he and his crew now enjoy include pipes, fixtures, boiler tubes and water heaters that work for long periods of time; they can focus on critical emergencies; and they don’t need the harsh chemicals they used to use. Proteus Systems are a win-win-win for his crew, the tenants and the environment.
Long-lasting Systems. School district boiler maintenance man Mike James used to have to crawl into boilers to scrape and chisel corroded components… Now he just admires the gleaming boiler tubes and the school district he works for saves thousands of dollars every year. Since Proteus Systems were installed, the district hasn’t had to replace even one tube. Periodic cleanup takes five minutes instead of hours.
Low Maintenance. Laundry plant maintenance manager Jim Calles hasn’t lost a boiler tube or used harsh cleaning chemicals for eleven years since Proteus Systems were installed. Water testing on each shift has been slashed from over an hour to ten minutes. Their huge steam boiler, rated at 35,000 pounds per hour, accomplishes 100 percent of its job at about 60 percent of its capacity, which translates to easier maintenance and longer life expectancy for the whole system.

Chief Engineer Became a Believer When He Saw Clean Boiler Tubes
When Luther Larson looked inside the boiler and saw that it was clean as a whistle, he quit laughing. His effort to prove that the system wouldn’t work backfired, and Larson quickly was ready to give testimony about the advantages of the Proteus System in office buildings.
For Larson, Chief Engineer of the CenFed Building in Santa Monica, Proteus’s benefits are felt in what he doesn’t have to do since the first units went on line.
Pipes, fixtures, boiler tubes and water heaters work. Larson and his crew can concentrate on other jobs and have more time for recommended routine procedures. For the tenants, Proteus means not having to put up with systems being down while boilers are repaired or with plumbing being out of service because of corrosion.
“We see savings from not having to use chemicals in the cooling tower, we’ve eliminated having to clean valves, and we conserve water by not having to bleed the systems,” he said. “I like Proteus because of its efficiencies and because is it doesn’t add to the depletion of Ozone.” Larson, a maintenance engineer for 17 years, is sold on the benefits of the Proteus System to make his work easier and not harm the environment.
After having an additional Proteus unit installed in the health spa being added to the CenFed Building, Larson said, “Proteus saves me materials, labor, time and money. I like it because it works!”
Mike James and Proteus Solve Boiler Problems, Save School District Money
Every 36 to 42 months, Mike James of the 22 school Downey (California) Unified School District had to put up with the expense and inconvenience of replacing bundles of tubes in boilers. The cost of the materials alone ran as high as $4,500 per bundle and then there was the time involved in reinstallation and maintenance.
Life got easier for Mike James 12 years ago when the first Proteus System unit went on-line. Since then the Downey School District hasn’t had to replace a boiler tube on any unit where Proteus is on the job. James gives credit to the Proteus system.
Before they found Proteus James was a maintenance man who had to crawl inside boilers and large water heaters for days of chiseling, scrubbing and cleaning. Two months after Proteus began serving the system, a problem boiler was opened up and inside the tubes gleamed without a spot of scale on the copper tubes.
Meanwhile, in the bottom was the evidence of how clogged up the boiler had been. Now, instead of scraping and chiseling, James was able to brush away the remnants. When the boiler is opened once a year, the clean-up takes less than five minutes.
Mike James has moved up to Supervisor of Maintenance Services for the school district which is an appropriate place for him, since James and education go together. He strives to keep his knowledge about water at the highest level, and has continued his quest to learn through college-level courses about the physics and chemistry that affects water.
That advanced training is making him an expert on water, which he applies when plumbing problems develop. James stays ahead of crisis management.
1,000 HP Steam Boiler Uses No Chemicals for 11 Years with Proteus System Installed
Eleven years without chemicals to control scale and corrosion in the 1,014 horsepower Babcock & Wilcox steam boiler has meant significant savings in money and downtime for one of the largest linen plants in the world. The success is wholly attributed to the Proteus Magnesium water System.
At the 169,000 square foot laundry plant in Las Vegas built by Western Linen and bought by Angelica Linen Rental in December of 1993, Proteus cut boiler maintenance costs by a third, according to Maintenance Manager Jim Calles. “With Proteus, we haven’t lost a boiler tube.”
Boiler water testing took at least one hour per shift with more time spent adjusting the chemical flow to balance the pH. Now the maintenance crew does a ten minute blow-down once a shift. The steam boiler, rated at 35,000 pounds per hour, accomplishes 100 percent of its job at about 60 percent of its capacity, thanks to Proteus. That translates into easier maintenance and longer life expectancy.
Chief Engineer Lester Muhmel recalls that before Proteus was installed, “We had to clean the boiler with chisels… for the past 11 years the boiler’s been clean when we opened it up.”

Proteus Water is Kind to the Environment
Most water conditioning and purifying systems use chemicals, including salt, to treat water. Some systems strip the water of all nutrients and minerals to the point that the water you are drinking is actually hard on your body. But never fear, there is one system that uses no salt or chemicals and actually enriches your water with necessary minerals.
The Proteus System not only enhances your drinking water from the tap, it does the same for all the water in your home or wherever you have this system installed.
Your plants and lawns will show you just how healthy and nutritious the water is in just a few months. You will see greener, lusher plants and lawns, which helps the oxygen cycle regenerate carbon dioxide into oxygen.
You can also feel the difference in your own health. The mineral-enriched Proteus water can increase your daily intake of calcium and magnesium, which are both vital minerals for your body.
